The Nigerian Army has taken a major step towards self-reliance in military hardware production with the acquisition of 15 locally-made Vanquisher Light Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs). The handover ceremony, held on March 4, 2026, was a testament to the Army’s commitment to advancing indigenous defence technology.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, Major General Bamidele Alabi emphasized the significance of local production in enhancing operational effectiveness and countering insurgency. “Indigenous defence innovation is critical to achieving combat readiness and operational superiority,” he said.
The Vanquisher Light APCs, manufactured by Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in collaboration with Vanquish Industries Limited and Command Engineering Depot, are designed to address Nigeria’s unique security challenges.
Lieutenant General Shuaibu noted that local production will reduce capital flight, stimulate the economy, and enhance the Armed Forces’ self-sufficiency. DICON Director-General, Major General BI Alaya, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and urged other security agencies to patronize indigenous defence products.
This milestone marks a significant step towards Nigeria’s military-industrial growth.
