Meet the New Police Spokesman: IGP Disu Appoints DCP Anthony Okon Placid as Force PRO

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anthony Okon Placid, as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force. The appointment places the seasoned officer at the centre of the Force’s public communication, making him responsible for managing the image and media engagement of the police nationwide.

DCP Placid brings nearly three decades of policing experience spanning administration, operations, intelligence, training and international peacekeeping assignments. Born on December 2, 1970 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the new police spokesman hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos. He also studied Law at the National Open University of Nigeria.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano in 1996 and was commissioned in August 1998. Over the years, he has served in several strategic positions including:

  • Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adamawa State
  • PPRO, Police Staff College, Jos
  • Chief of Training, African Union Mission in Sudan
  • Head of Training and Development, United Nations Mission in Darfur
  • Divisional Police Officer in Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan and Gembu
  • Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Akwa Ibom and Kogi States

DCP Placid is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and also serves as a trainer on International Humanitarian Law for the International Committee of the Red Cross. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Course (SEC 47) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, where he was inducted as a Member of the National Institute (mni) in December 2025.

The new Force spokesman is married with children and enjoys sports such as football, basketball, table tennis and badminton. The appointment is expected to strengthen communication between the Nigeria Police Force and the public while improving transparency and engagement with the media. 😊
