Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Eastern Sanity have successfully rescued 12 kidnapped victims during a swift security operation in Ette Community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The operation, carried out by troops of the 82 Division Garrison, followed a distress call reporting the abduction of several residents by suspected kidnappers on Friday, March 6, 2026. Security sources disclosed that the troops responded immediately, mobilising in collaboration with Nigeria Police operatives, Forest Guards, and members of the Neighbourhood Watch to the suspected hideout where the victims were believed to have been taken.
Upon arrival at the location, the joint security team launched aggressive search and fighting patrols across the surrounding forest and adjoining communities in a determined effort to locate the kidnappers and secure the victims’ freedom. The swift response and superior combat readiness of the troops reportedly forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee the scene.
During a thorough sweep of the area, troops successfully rescued all 12 victims unharmed. Security forces also arrested two suspects believed to be connected to the kidnapping operation. Military sources confirmed that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to help security agencies track down other members of the criminal gang and dismantle the network responsible for the abduction.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation Eastern Sanity have intensified aggressive patrols, surveillance operations, and intelligence-driven missions across the area to prevent further criminal activities. Security authorities say the successful rescue operation underscores the military’s sustained operational pressure against criminal elements and its commitment to protecting lives and property while restoring public confidence and lasting security across communities in the South-East region.
