ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) held a ceremonial Pull-Out Parade at its headquarters in Abuja to honor the retirement of IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun (rtd), PhD, NPM, after 36 years of distinguished service, while welcoming the new Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM.
The parade celebrated IGP Egbetokun’s legacy in strengthening operational efficiency, promoting intelligence-led policing, and enhancing professionalism across the Force. Key initiatives under his leadership included the expansion of the Intelligence Bureau, elevation of the Legal and Medical Units, development of the Cybercrime Centre, improvements to the National Criminal Database, and the establishment of Mobile Force Squadrons, Area Commands, and the Special Intervention Squad.
Reflecting on his career, IGP Egbetokun said: “Leadership of the Nigerian Police Force is never the story of one individual, but the unfolding story of an institution in constant service to the nation. Serving this great institution has been one of the highest privileges of my professional life.”
IGP Olatunji Disu, who will now lead the NPF, praised his predecessor: “IGP Egbetokun distinguished himself over decades of service, demonstrating courage, discipline, and strategic foresight. We will build upon his solid foundation to sustain reforms that enhance professionalism, operational capacity, and community trust.”
The parade was attended by former IGPs, top security officials, lawmakers, and traditional rulers, including Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), IGP Mike Okiro (Rtd), IGP Ogbonna Onovo (Rtd), and HRM Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, Paramount Ruler of Yewaland. The ceremony highlighted continuity, institutional excellence, and commitment to public service, as the Nigerian Police Force transitions from one distinguished leader to another.
