US Military Tanker Aircraft Crashes During Mission in Western Iraq

A United States military refuelling aircraft crashed in western Iraq while carrying out a mission linked to the ongoing conflict with Iran, sparking fears that several American service members may have died.

The aircraft went down during Operation Epic Fury, the campaign currently being conducted by the United States in the region. According to United States Central Command, the aircraft involved was a Boeing KC‑135 Stratotanker, a tanker used by the U.S. Air Force to refuel other military aircraft during operations.

Officials said the crash occurred following an incident involving two aircraft operating in friendly airspace. There were no indications that hostile fire contributed to the incident.

The tanker came down in western Iraq, though authorities have not yet confirmed the condition of the crew or whether there were casualties. Search and recovery efforts are reportedly underway as military officials work to determine the cause of the crash.

The incident comes as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East amid ongoing strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian-linked targets.

U.S. President Donald Trump has pledged to continue military action against Tehran, describing Iran as an “evil empire” and insisting Washington will prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons. In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump said the United States remains committed to stopping Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities and destabilising the region.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces said it recently struck the Taleghan compound, which Israeli officials claim was being used to develop critical capabilities linked to nuclear weapons.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has outlined conditions for ending the conflict, stating that hostilities could stop if Iran’s “legitimate rights” are recognised, reparations are paid, and guarantees are provided against future attacks. He added that final authority on such matters rests with Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

The conflict is also affecting global energy markets and shipping routes. Several vessels have been struck near the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, including tankers operating near Iraq and another vessel off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

The attacks have heightened concerns over disruptions to global oil supplies, with prices climbing again toward $100 per barrel amid growing instability in the Gulf region. Investigations into the aircraft crash are ongoing.
