The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) handed over $225,895 and ₦62,790,000 to foreign victims of fraud from the United States and South Africa, reinforcing its commitment to global anti-corruption and asset recovery efforts.
The handover ceremony included representatives of the victims’ countries, such as FBI Assistant Law Enforcement Attaché Mike Fukuda and Acting High Commissioner of South Africa to Nigeria, Lindi Mminele. EFCC Secretary Mohammed Hammajoda stressed the cross-border nature of corruption and the importance of collective action. “Corruption is like a cancer… We must join hands collectively to defeat it,” he said.
During the ceremony, Fukuda received $7,440 for American victims, while Mminele received $50,000 for Ennis-Flint Africa Limited, a South African company. The recipients expressed gratitude, with Mminele saying, “South Africa has witnessed that what the Commission is doing is real.” The EFCC’s efforts are restoring confidence in doing business with Nigerians and enhancing Nigeria’s reputation .
