Oba Ewuare II Pledges Palace Support for Military Operations in Edo State

The Oba Ewuare II has pledged the full support of the Benin Palace for ongoing military operations aimed at maintaining peace and security in Edo State. The revered monarch gave the assurance when the Commander of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, paid him a courtesy visit at the Royal Palace in Benin City on March 4, 2026.

During the visit, the monarch commended the Nigerian Army for its continued efforts in safeguarding law-abiding citizens across the state. He acknowledged the commitment of troops deployed in the area and prayed for their protection as they carry out their duties professionally in support of civil authorities. Oba Ewuare II also recognized the ongoing security operations being conducted to protect lives and property in the state.

In a symbolic gesture reflecting cultural identity, the monarch suggested that military operations carried out within the kingdom could adopt codenames derived from the Benin language.

Earlier, Brigadier General Balogun explained that the visit formed part of his engagements with key stakeholders since assuming command of the brigade. According to him, the meeting provided an opportunity to formally introduce himself to the monarch and seek royal blessings and guidance for the responsibilities entrusted to him.

The Brigade Commander emphasized that the goodwill and collaboration of the Benin throne would further strengthen the military’s efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the state. He reiterated the Brigade’s zero-tolerance stance against criminal activities and reaffirmed the readiness of troops to respond decisively to any emerging threats.

The visit concluded with a special prayer session led by the Oba, during which he offered royal blessings for Brigadier General Balogun and the personnel of the brigade as they continue to discharge their constitutional duties in safeguarding the people of Edo State.
