Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully repelled multiple coordinated attacks launched by ISWAP terrorists on several military locations across Borno State. The attacks, which occurred between 10:00 p.m. on March 8 and 3:00 a.m. on March 9, 2026, targeted military bases in Delwa, Goniri, Kukawa, Mainok, and a troops’ harbour position deep inside the Sambisa Forest.
The insurgents launched the coordinated strikes from several directions in a calculated attempt to overwhelm the troops. However, soldiers of Operation HADIN KAI stood their ground and mounted a determined resistance, effectively coordinating defensive operations across multiple fronts. Reinforcements and the Air Component provided timely support, helping to repel the attackers after fierce gun battles.
The terrorists were forced to retreat after suffering significant casualties, leaving behind several bodies and a cache of weapons and equipment, including two PKT machine guns, six AK-47 rifles, eight RPG bombs, four mortar bombs, and assorted ammunition. While sections of the defensive perimeters at Goniri and Kukawa were briefly breached, the military confirmed that all locations remain firmly under the control of Operation HADIN KAI troops.
Ground forces, supported by the Air Component, have launched follow-up exploitation operations in the affected areas. Cordon and search operations are ongoing in surrounding communities after reports that some wounded terrorists were attempting to seek refuge there. The military confirmed that the clashes claimed the lives of some gallant soldiers, including a senior officer in Kukawa who died in the line of duty.
The sacrifice of the soldiers underscores the commitment of Nigerian troops in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the North East. Operation HADIN KAI troops remain vigilant and determined to sustain relentless operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of action and restoring lasting peace and security across the region.
