Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has reaffirmed its commitment to improving maternal and newborn health services nationwide following the successful delivery of quadruplets at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Mrs. Mufiat Olateju, who was referred to FMC Abeokuta in labour, delivered four healthy babies in a high-risk procedure expertly managed by the hospital’s medical team. Both mother and children have been stabilised and are receiving comprehensive medical care, including monitoring and psychosocial support.
Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, commended the professionalism and prompt response of the FMC Abeokuta team. He emphasised the importance of early and consistent antenatal care, which allows health professionals to detect complications, plan safer deliveries, and improve pregnancy outcomes.
The Ministry also highlighted the value of postpartum counselling and voluntary family planning services as part of comprehensive maternal care. These services support families in making informed decisions about birth spacing and overall wellbeing.
“The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare remains committed to strengthening maternal, newborn, and child health services across Nigeria by improving health systems, expanding access to quality care, and equipping skilled healthcare personnel,” the Ministry stated.
This milestone underscores ongoing efforts to reduce preventable maternal and infant deaths and improve healthcare access for all Nigerians.
