The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has launched a new Command Philosophy aimed at transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, agile, and combat-effective force. The philosophy, unveiled on February 25, 2026, at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, is built around five key pillars: Professional Excellence, Robust Administration, Operational Readiness, Strategic Cooperation, and Exemplary Leadership (PROSE).
The COAS emphasized that the Nigerian Army operates in a complex security environment, requiring tactical proficiency, institutional strength, and a soldier-first approach. The PROSE doctrine prioritizes personnel welfare, morale, training, and empowerment to drive combat effectiveness and credibility.
Lieutenant General Shaibu urged senior officers to internalize the philosophy, focusing on operational success, public trust, and adherence to the rule of law. The PROSE doctrine marks a strategic shift towards balancing security operations with force development and modernization.
