The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to generate N23.8 billion in internally generated revenue (IGR) for the 2026 fiscal year, representing a N4 billion increase from its 2025 projection.
The projection was presented to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund as part of the agency’s proposed 2026 budget. Delivering the presentation on behalf of the Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, was Dr Muftau Bello, a director in the registrar’s office.
According to Bello, JAMB is proposing a total budget of N30.6 billion for 2026. Of this amount, N23.8 billion is expected to be generated internally, while N6 billion will be remitted to the Federation Account as operating surplus.
The board also reviewed its 2025 performance, revealing that it generated N18.5 billion in IGR during the year and remitted N4 billion to the Federation Account.
On preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the agency disclosed that it has increased the number of examination centres nationwide to 1,000, up from fewer than 800 centres used in 2025. The expansion is intended to improve accessibility and ease logistical challenges for candidates across the country.
Members of the committee, chaired by Senator Muntari Dandutse, commended the board for its financial performance and operational improvements under Oloyede’s leadership.
However, Senator Yohanna Amos, who represents Adamawa North, called on the board to further reduce the UTME registration fee, currently set at N3,500. In response, Bello noted that the fee was previously N5,000 before it was reduced to the current amount by the registrar.
